NOIDA: After going slow for a year, the development projects in Noida and Greater Noida are all set to be revived, with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugurating six projects worth Rs 3,300 crore on April 2 in Lucknow.
GREATER NOIDA: After launching 15 eco-friendly rickshaws to make travelling short distances across the city easier for residents, Greater Noida Authority has decided to add a fleet of another 85 such vehicles by the beginning of next month.
As part of the second phase of the project, the route for the battery-operated rickshaws will also be expanded to ensure that they cover the most frequented areas. The route will be finalized soon.
Greater Noida Authority CEO Rama Raman had launched the e-rickshaws in January. Currently, the 15 e-ricks ply in and around Knowledge Park, Pari Chowk, Galgotia College and Sharda University, besides four residential sectors – Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta.
The e-ricks have been launched in association with Samman, a non-profit group. While the project is funded by the non-profit body, the Authority is facilitating its operations, including movement, parking, etc across the city. Officials said the new rickshaws not just provide an environment-friendly and speedy option for commuting from one sector to another or within arterial areas, they will also help in reducing the menace of share autos crowding busy junctions.
“These eco-friendly rickshaws are charged using electricity. These can run for about 90km once fully charged at a maximum speed of about 25km per hour. The rickshaws are easily accessible to the public as besides being parked at some of the most frequented spots in the city, theyalso provide a pick-and-drop facility on call in the areas covered under the designated route,” an Authority official said.A control room has been created for bookings and one can call on 08285024242 to avail the pick-and-drop facility. These rickshaws ply on pre-fixed charges in accordance with the distance covered.
