Two New Metro Links Set To Get Nod
NOIDA: Having put the Noida-Greater Noida Metro corridor on track, the Noida Metro Rail Company (NMRC) is all set to finalize two new Metro routes this month one from Noida Sector 71 to Greater Noida Knowledge Park V and the other from Okhla Bird Sanctuary to Noida Sector 143, eventually forming a loop covering various parts of the twin cities and Greater Noida (west).
The detailed project reports (DPR) for the two proposed Metro corridors, collectively measuring around 27.5 km and likely to come up at a combined cost of more than Rs 5,000 crore (Rs 200 crore/km), will be in place by the end of the month, officials said on Saturday.
According to officials, once the DPRs for the two proposed routes are finalized, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) could be inked in the next six months.
“Currently, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is working on the DPRs for the two proposed routes. Once the draft DPRs are prepared, it will seek approval from the board before getting the state government’s nod. Once the final DPRs and the Metro alignment are approved, the MoU will be signed and construction will start,” said G P Singh, executive director of NMRC, told TOI.
Officials said that as of now, the DPR is for an 11km stretch from Sector 71 to Greater Noida Knowledge Park V via Noida sectors 122 and 123, Greater Noida’s Sector 4, Ecotech 12, Greater Noida’s sectors 2, 3 and 10, and another for an 16.5km stretch that will link Line 8 (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden) of DMRC’s Phase-III through a proposed station near the Okhla Bird Sanctuary to Sector 143.
“The loop will consist of an extension from Noida City Centre to Greater Noida Knowledge Park V (KP-V), via Gaur City Square (Greater Noida Sector 4). Eventually, the Greater Noida loop will be completed by connecting to Noida City Centre via stations at Pari Chowk and sectors 147, 143, 85, 101 and 50 in Noida, among others,” Singh said.
While the route between Kalindi Kunj and Sector 142 is likely to have 6 stationsKalindi Kunj in Delhi, Noida sectors 125, 98, 108, 91 and 142 the track between Noida’s Sector 71 and Greater Noida’s KP-V will have up to nine stations, he said.
Singh also said that the NMRC is currently in the process of finalizing a satellite depot near the proposed route alignment.
“We have earmarked a couple of sites for this depot, which will be developed across 10 hectares of land. This depot will be used for housing and maintaining any spillover of Metro coaches etc from the main depot located in Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park V area. Once the land for the satellite depot is finalized in the next 10 days, we will be ready with the draft DPRs for the two proposed routes,” he added.
